Mackmyra Brukswhisky review Mackmyra Brukswhisky is a core single malt in the range of the first Swedish whisky distillery. Brukswhisky has been matured primarily in first fill Ex-Bourbon barrels, yet it also contains some Ex-Sherry cask and Swedish oak cask matured whisky.

Bottled at 46.1% ABV, Mackmyra Svensk Ek has a pale yellow coloring in the glass. The nose is gentle, carrying a lemon and apple scent with buttery undertones, much like a nice fruity cake. The flavor, however, takes a sharp turn into turf that is herbal and spicy. Mackmyras Gravity Distillery is well engineered, looks (and is) high tech and energy efficient. We were very pleasantly impressed that the staff are so personally dedicated to creating great whisky, showing a lot of attention to details and a lot of pride in the distillery. Mackmyra is a Swedish distillery with a cool back story.

Sweden isn’t a country with a long history of whiskey production, so it might come as a surprise to learn that Mackmyra, Sweden’s oldest whiskey producer, was founded in 1999, meaning it pre-dates the bulk of American craft distilleries. Angela worked with Yuko Ono Sthlm, a certified Japanese tea advisor to develop this unique whisky, which is bottled at 46.1% strength. Mackmyra Grönt Te – review. Colour: apple juice. On the nose: green apples, a herbal dustiness that reminds me of opening a green tea container.

Up until 1999 there were no Whisky distilleries in Sweden. Then one day and enterprising group of friends decided to change that, and the Mackmyra Distillery was born. This Whisky is Swedish to its core. From the barley and water it begins with, right up to the oak is it matured in. Mackmyra certainly knows its roots.
